Achieving Whānau Ora

The concept of Whānau Ora can be described as a major contemporary indigenous health initiative driven by Māori cultural values. Its core goal is to empower communities and extended families to support whānau within the community context rather than individuals within an institutional context. It is about transformation; celebrating the power and potential of a whānau-centred approach which will enable our people to flourish. Whānau Ora is the ultimate expression of our survival.

Our goal is to support whānau to have a voice and a choice when it comes to their family wellbeing. Ministry of Health statistics show Māori are almost three times as likely as non-Māori to have experienced unfair treatment based on ethnicity. This demonstrates why it is imperative that initiatives respond to racial discrimination. Our solution to this problem is to provide a service through a kaupapa practise model that is proven and successful.
